CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Noah

It's late, but I'm expecting a call regarding the meeting I have set for the morning. So when my cell buzzes with an incoming call, I answer without looking.

"Noah Saunders."

"Noah, it's Levi. We have a problem."

Fuck. I mentally rage at the bitch responsible for tormenting Miles as Levi fills me in on tonight's incident. We've kept her harassment from him, even after Levi told him what she'd been doing. For the most part, it's been pretty innocent, albeit annoying. I don't believe she'd hurt Miles, that would go against her endgame. However, her showing up at Lucid, hoping to get him alone, is edging into dangerous stalker territory.

"We need to do something. She's locked up for the night, but she has contacts on the force. She'll be out in the morning, and we'll be lucky if the charges against her stick." Levi sounds as frustrated as I feel.

"Can you meet for lunch tomorrow? I have some ideas, but I think it's better if we discuss how to handle her face to face." That's not true. I have no idea what to do about Miranda, but I know I can't let her keep coming after Miles. From what Levi has told me in our conversations, she is a stain that taints those around her. She did the same to Miles while they'd been together. I refuse to let her continue to eclipse the man he is with her darkness.

Levi and I set up a time and place to meet tomorrow, and it calms my nerves a bit to know we're taking steps to ensure Miles' safety. The call I'd been waiting on comes through, and I spend the next few hours working and counting down the minutes until Miles is off the clock and on his way over. We've been taking turns staying at each other's apartments. Some nights it's nothing more than falling asleep next to one another. It might be moving a little too fast, but I enjoy spending time with him, so why deny myself the opportunity?

I'm just hopping out of the shower when I hear a knock at the front door. Wrapping a towel around my hips without drying, I relish the look of shock and lust that is clear on Miles' face when I answer the door. If I didn't need to be up at the crack of dawn, I'd haul his ass inside and devour it.

"Come on in. I'm going to go put something on. Why don't you pick out a film to watch?" Pulling him inside, I shut the door.

I dry off and pull on a pair of boxers. Nearly covered, I head back to the living room where Miles is waiting.

"Seriously?" He adjusts himself on the couch to alleviate the erection I can see pushing against his zipper.

"What?" I fake innocence.

"You know what. That's not much better than the towel. You might as well be wearing nothing."

"Hmm. Maybe next time."

I laugh at his groan and take a seat beside him. As much
